Safe words: BDSM, not just the bedroom, not just the play

I’m not going to get into too much detail here as I’m about 10 steps away from being clueless of the BDSM scene beyond the very, very basics. I would love to learn more, that’s for sure. I just wanted to talk about something I saw at my friend’s house.

She was cooking dinner, and he was helping out with various things around the house. He was in a playful mood, and swatted her on the butt with a kitchen hand towel. She shooed him away, and offhandedly told him to stop. He, being the brat he is, swatted at her again, and she turned around, told him what was very obviously their safe word, and turned back to continue dinner. At that, he stopped right away.

This was the first time I’ve ever heard safe words outside of the bedroom, and I found it fascinating to be used in every day life. It’s not that I haven’t heard of it happening before, but I haven’t actually heard or seen it in action. It was astounding for me to see. For people deeply delved into the BDSM life, I’m sure this is probably a normal thing, but for me being so clueless about it, it was fascinating, and I’ve been thinking about it since then.

Perhaps I need to explore BDSM more, and not just for the fun side.
